Market forces fail to deliver high quality, affordable healthcare

Comment from Joseph Q. Jarvis MD MSPH:

Conservatives should take the time to read and absorb this commentary published recently by the CEO of an American business.  Health system policy in the US is driven by the concept that market forces can and will shape better healthcare delivery.  Politicians from both major parties commonly talk about the need for market forces to improve healthcare.  These ideas are so common that Americans have tended to simply accept them as true.  Trouble is, there is no free market in healthcare.  The pretense of market forces makes American healthcare delivery the worst of all possible worlds: massively expensive while both inefficient and poor in quality.  In this brief opinion piece published in 2017 in Pennsylvania, CEO Richard Master explains why market forces can’t fix our broken healthcare system.
